The Department of Mathematics and Statistics provides all undergraduate students with an education in mathematics and statistics that will serve as part of a foundation for life-long learning and preparation for graduate study, K-12 teaching, or employment in industry. The department's goals are to:

  • Teach students to communicate mathematical ideas effectively, synthesize information from multiple sources and perspectives, and use mathematical models and technology to solve practical problems.
  • Establish an atmosphere of creative endeavor that supports interdisciplinary collaborations, innovative projects, significant research, interesting courses, and informal discussions that mutually benefit student, faculty and the community at large.
